From preventing 110,000kg of CO2 emissions to serving 132,000 meals, The Hub Te
Puke is cooking up a revolution in how we think about food security and community
care.

At The Hub, our approach to kai security is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: every
meal we save has the potential to change lives and our planet. When we rescue and distribute
food, we’re not just filling pantries—we’re building a more sustainable and caring
community.

Our dedicated team has distributed nearly 60,000 kilograms of food this year alone, providing
over 132,000 meals to our whānau. But what makes our hearts genuinely full is knowing that
each food parcel represents more than just sustenance – it’s a message of hope, dignity, and
community support to every family we serve. The stories we hear daily remind us why this
work matters so much. When a parent can put a nutritious dinner on the table, when a kuia
can share kai with her mokopuna, or when a family experiencing hardship knows they have
somewhere to turn – these moments reflect the true impact of our mahi.

What increases the impact of our approach is its ripple effect. Every kilogram of food we
rescue not only feeds our community but also protects our environment. This year, our food
rescue efforts have prevented approximately 110,000 kilograms of CO2 emissions and saved
over 23 million litres of water. It’s humbling to think that while we’re helping feed our
community, we’re simultaneously helping safeguard the environment for future generations.
Our diverse community – from our Māori whānau to our growing Asian and Pacifica families
– all find a welcoming space at The Hub. We’re not just distributing food; we’re nurturing
connections, preserving dignity, and building a more resilient Te Puke.

This is more than a food security program – it’s a movement toward a more sustainable,
caring, and connected community. Every donation, every volunteer hour, and every
partnership helps us weave this web of support stronger. Together, we’re not just fighting
hunger; we’re nurturing hope, protecting our planet, and showing that everyone thrives when
the community comes first.
